On
Saturday 21 May 2005 the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)
presented
the 50th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest through NTU (National
TV Ukraine) in Kiev, Ukraine. Malta did not need to take part in the Qualifying Round on
Thursday,
19 May 2005, because Julie & Ludwig placed among the top 15 songs
during the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, Turkey. Malta's
representatives for 2005 was Chiara singing Angel, which
she wrote
under her full name, Chiara Siracusa. This was Chiara's second
appearance
at the Eurovision Song Contest, a first for any Maltese singer.
Angel placed second at this year's contest, only 38 points behind
the
winner, My Number One, performed by Helena Paparizou from Greece.
Chiara had
placed 3rd in the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest final in Birmingham,
England.
