: Malta Song for Europe 2007
The
Malta Song for Europe 2007 final was held under a big tent at
Ta' Qali on Saturday 3rd February 2007. The winner, Olivia Lewis, will
represent Malta
at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest in Finland in May.
Over
two hundred submissions were narrowed down to 35 and on the 19th December
2006, sixteen songs made it to this year's festival.
For the second year running, the MaltaSong Board together with Aceline
produced the Opportunity 2 contest which resulted in two others songs,
interpreted by new singers, being chosen to participate with the other
fourteen finalists.
The winning song, which will represent Malta in Finland during
the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest semi-final on the 10th of May, was
selected through
public televoting. There was no technical or professional judging and so
the winning song is simply the popular choice through 100% televoting.
Oliva Lewis' song Vertigo, written by Gerard James Borg and
composed by Philip
Vella garnered 30,977 votes. Olivia was the runner-up in the Malta Song
for Europe for several successive years prior to this year's triumph.
Trilogy placed second with 7,647 votes for Starlight while
Klinsmann
Coleiro singing She Gives Me Wings placed third earning 7,550
votes.
Here
are the 16 songs from the 2007 Malta Song for Europe. The
songs listed below appear in the same order they appear at the
festival's semi-final on Thursday 1 February 2007. The
highlighted songs made it through to the final round.
